Is God really in control of our lives and this world?

God is the creator of the heavens and the earth. He is the creator of all things. His ultimate and perfect creation is you and me. He created us in his own image and declared, “It is good.” He has power over life and death. He is in control of the fiercest storm and at the same time, fully aware of a tiny sparrow’s death. God even controls history. His plan for our world and its ultimate conclusion has already been established long ago. Even though a spiritual battle still exists between the forces of good and evil, there is no chance God is going to lose. His victory has been assured. Satan does have immense power, but he can never threaten God’s ultimate purpose — to have his creation share in his love.

Even though humans have the capacity to reject God’s love and choose to deliberately sin, God is still in control of their lives. He orchestrates the blessings and the tragedies with the intent of drawing us closer to him. God does not call on us to understand his wisdom, but to simply trust in him and his plan for our lives. Sometimes after a tragedy, we hear the words “God is in control” or “the purpose of God.” What is God’s purpose of “taking home” a young girl killed by a drunken driver? What is God’s purpose in allowing a young mother to succumb to cancer leaving three small children at home? I honestly don’t know. Sometimes, God simply does not make sense. Yet, it is logical to conclude that we can never completely understand God’s wisdom since he is a higher being.

We must remember that the focus of the Christian hope derived from faith is not on this life, but on the next. Our physical life on earth is only temporary. What matters the most is where we will spend eternity. If heaven were not true, life is ultimately tragic and absurd. By believing in Christ as Savior, we receive the hope that all things will work out for good and our citizenship in heaven is assured. In the meantime, a person can receive through faith the fullness in life God always intended them to have. It is a fullness that no evil in the world can touch. The Apostle Paul tells us that “nothing can separate us from the love of Christ.” God still exercises today the dominating influence in the world. Only he knows what this world would be like without his constant, holy influence.

O GOD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.

    Nice blog my friend…

  2. I enjoyed your post. While I disagree with much of it, that is only because we look at things differently (you through Christianity, me through Deism/Agnosticism). The only comment I would take issue with is:

“If heaven were not true, life is ultimately tragic and absurd.”

I hear this comment quite often from people of faith. Something resembling “If Jesus didn’t die for the sins of the world, then life is meaningless etc…” People have even commented to me that my life must really seem meaningless because I’m not a believer. Just the opposite is true.

Actually, I think that many Christians get so caught up with the next life that they don’t pay attention to what’s going on here and now. They know that they’re “strangers in a strange land” and therefore just really don’t put much stock into the here and now…other than to try to convert people. To me, this is not the way to live life with meaning.

I have a whole entry on the meaning of life, so I don’t want to rewrite what I have already said, but suffice it to say that meaning is subjective. My meaning is in my face every morning when I get out of bed and see my wife and my son. Meaning for me also exists when I help out others and do good deeds. Meaning for me has nothing to do with “salvation,” instead its recognizing that I have one life, and I need to be present in it, not wait for the next.

you are truly opposite..from the truth!
    you better read this!
    Bible says:

while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

    II Corinthians 4:18

Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth.

For our citizenship is in heaven; whence also we wait for a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

    Philippians 3:20

For our citizenship is in heaven!!!

WE ARE ONLY strangers HERE ON EARTH!

These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

  4. I’ve got to be honest, it doesn’t do any good to quote scripture to people who don’t see the bible as divinely inspired. I was a Christian for over 10 years and am well aware of those scriptures.

How the Bible differ from other books?

s everything written in the Bible true? Are there valid proofs or pieces of evidence that the Bible really came from God? Must we believe the Bible? How does the Bible differ from other books written by man? These are the questions that we will seek answers for. And we will do it by using the Bible as our basis.

We must not accept other people’s contention that the Bible must not be believed in because it was simply written by man. It does not always follow that if a work was just written by man, it is no longer true, and that we must not believe it anymore! Actually, the Koran as well the Book of Mormons was also written by men. But there is something unique about the Bible—written by 40 penmen, the Bible was guided and inspired with the Holy Spirit. Must we believe everything that was written in the Bible? We are going to answer all these, one by one, through the Holy Scriptures.

One of the vital issues that many people raise is that the Bible contains many contradictions. We must investigate the validity of this claim. Besides, it is wise for a Christian to know the deepest part of the Bible, which is the basis of our faith.

Are there really contradictions in the Bible? In a commentary made by Ahmed Deedat about the Bible, he said that, the Bible contains a number of errors and contradictions. And on that premise, we will begin our discussion: insofar as the word of God is concerned, Will there ever be a possibility that God would contradict Himself?

First of all, to contradict oneself is against the law. The law, particularly under the Rules on Evidence, states that, you cannot contradict yourself. You just cannot stand on something today, which you will deny, or falsify, the next day!

The following are the instances of conclusive presumptions:

    1. Whenever a party has, by his own declaration, act or omission, intentionally and deliberately led another to believe a particular thing true, and to act upon such belief, he cannot, in any litigation arising out of such declaration, act of omission, be permitted to falsify it; (Rule 131 (a), Rules on Evidence)
    2. A witness may be impeached by the party against whom he was called, by contradictory evidence, by evidence that his general reputation for truth, honesty or integrity is bad, or by evidence that he has made at other times inconsistent with his present testimony, but not by evidence or particular wrongful acts, except that it may be shown by the examination of the witness, or the record of the judgment, that he has been convicted of an offense. (Rule 132, Rules on Evidence)

If we are given the responsibility not to contradict ourselves, more so with God! Just like what Romans 14:22 says—

“Hast thou faith? Have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.”

That is the principle of the Bible: Happy is he that condemns not himself in that thing which he allowed. It is not right that a person condemns, or contradicts, the things that he had previously agreed to. It will appear that he is unprincipled. But God is a principled God! Therefore, God will never contradict Himself; God will never oppose Himself!

Verses that will prove that God will not contradict Himself is in Proverbs 8:8-9—

“All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.”

This is the God’s claim in the Bible, quite a tough claim. This is a statement of assurance, or guarantee, to the readers of the Bible. Unfortunately, the Vedas (Hindus), the Book of Mormons, as well as the other books that claim that they are of God, do not offer that kind of assurance. It is only in the Bible where you can read such definite pronouncement. And it was God, Himself, who said this, through the writings of King Solomon— “All the words of my mouth are in righteousness.”

God said, ALL! When a pronouncement comes from God, they are all of righteousness. And should you find any false pronouncement, they did not come from God. Unlike the book of Bahaula’s teaching that God created everything by pair. At first glance, the claim may seem correct. Left hand is paired with right hand; right foot is paired with left foot; right ear paired with left ear; man is paired with a woman; tall and short, etc. However, in recent studies, one-celled organisms like the spirogyra could reproduce without a pair. These organisms do not need a female to reproduce. They reproduce by cell division. There are no males and females. In other words, Science had proven Bahaula’s claim to be wrong.

  6. I don’t want to use this comment space as a starting point for theological discussion…however, I will say that I understand your point but I disagree. Here’s why:

“These are the questions that we will seek answers for. And we will do it by using the Bible as our basis.”

You are using the Bible to authenticate itself. This is circular reasoning. You can’t quote scripture in order to prove that scripture is divinely inspired.

    Thanks for the discussion though.

  7. The Earth is Round

For centuries, men believed that the earth was flat. The Bible asserts otherwise. People in the 15th century feared sailing because they thought they would fall at the edge of the flat earth. Yet the Bible revealed the truth more than 1,000 years before man discovered it for himself.

It took a long time for science to discover what was recorded in the Bible more than 2,500 years ago. Copernicus invented the first globe in 1475 to demonstrate that the earth is a sphere. Galileo constructed the first astronomical telescope to study the sky. Columbus believed the earth was sphere with his voyage to North America in 1492. Finally, Magellan and his men sailed around the earth and proved it to be spherical in shape. These major events did not occur until the 15th century.

The fact of a spherical earth was clearly proclaimed in the Bible by the prophet Isaiah nearly twenty-eight centuries ago. In chapter 40 verse 22 of the book of Isaiah we read:

“It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” (KJV)

When Isaiah wrote this verse, he used the Hebrew word “khug” to describe the shape of the earth. Although this word is commonly translated into the English word “circle,” the literal meaning of this word is “a sphere.” It is also used in Proverbs 8:27:

“When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth: (KJV)

The word “khug” here is translated “compass”, referring to the surface of the ocean taking on a spherical shape. The earth is also said to be spherical as other verses like Job 26:10, and Amos 9:6 states:

(Job 26:10, KJV) “He hath compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.”

    (Amos 9:6, KJV)

“It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name.”

Moreover, the Bible was shown to be scientifically accurate in the observation made by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). Chief of a Planetarium Unit (Manila) Mr. Elmer Escosia pointed out the observation of a lunar eclipse proves that the earth is round. During a lunar eclipse, he said, you will find the one covering the moon is a round object and that round object is the earth. According to him, the earth’s shadow always takes a circular bite out of the moon during a lunar eclipse, which would only be possible with a spherical earth. This scientific principle is just one of the evidences that demonstrate the Bible’s historical accuracy – a discovery that proves how authentic the Bible is. 8. Science and the Bible at odds?

The Bible is often described as a book that includes many ideas that are scientifically inaccurate. Many people have misinterpreted the Bible in such a way as to make it seem to be at odds with the reality of our world. For example, the Roman Catholic Church promoted geocentrism (the idea that the earth is the center of the universe) for many years. This concept is not found in the Bible, but stems from the idea that since humans are the center of God’s attention, that the place where they live must be the center of God’s universe. This is neither a logical nor biblical inference because the Bible said that the heavens control the earth and not the other way around (the heavens “fix their rule over the earth,”). Scientists (Nicholas Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei) believe too that the earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around which the Catholic religion asserted. In fact, Isaac Newton, in his famous scientific work, Principia, stated, “The most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion on an intelligent and powerful Being.”

Of course, the Bible was not written as a work of science nor was its purpose to describe the workings of the physical world. However, when the Bible describes the physical world, it is accurate. The purpose of this article is to illustrate some of the examples of scientific principles described in the Bible hundreds to thousands of years before they were proved to be true by science.

    Scientific Principle

    • Time had a beginning (2 Timothy 1:9, Titus 1:2, 1 Corinthians 2:7)

    • The universe had a beginning (Genesis 1:1, 2:4, Isaiah 42:5, etc.)

    • The universe was created from the invisible (Hebrews 11:3)

    • The dimensions of the universe were created (Romans 8:38-39)

    • Creation of matter and energy has ended in the universe (refutes steady-state theory) (Genesis 2:3-4)

    • The universe is winding down and will “wear out” (Psalms 102:25-27)

    • Describes the correct order of creation (Genesis 1) (see Day-Age Genesis One Interpretation)

    • Number of stars exceeds a billion (Genesis 22:17, Jeremiah 33:22)

    • Every star is different (1 Corinthians 15:41)

    • Pleiades and Orion as gravitationally bound star groups (Job 38:31)

    • Light is in motion (Job 38:19-20)

    • The earth is controlled by the heavens (Job 38:33)

    • Earth is a sphere (Isaiah 40:2213 Job 26:10)

    • At any time, there is day and night on the Earth (Luke 17:34-35)

    • Earth is suspended in space (Job 26:7)
    Earth Sciences

    • Earth began as a waterworld. Formation of continents by tectonic activity described (Genesis 1:2-9, Psalms 104:6-9, Proverbs 3:19, Proverbs 8:27-29, Job 38:4-8, 2 Peter 3:5)

    • Water cycle described (Ecclesiastes 1:7; Isaiah 55:10, Job 36:27-28)

    • Valleys exist on the bottom of the sea (2 Samuel 22:16)

    • Vents exist on the bottom of the sea (Job 38:16)

    • Ocean currents in the sea (Psalms 8:8)

    • Air has weight (Job 28:25)

    • Winds blow in circular paths (Ecclesiastes 1:6)

    • The chemical nature of human life (Genesis 2:7, 3:19)

    • Life of creatures are in the blood (Leviticus 17:11)

    • The nature of infectious diseases (Leviticus 13:46)

    • Importance of sanitation to health (Numbers 19, Deuteronomy 23:12-13, Leviticus 7-9)

  9. Silver Denarius during the time of Jesus Christ

Jesus’ ministry began in the reign of Tiberius Caesar. There was an instance when Jesus’ opponents tried to trap him by asking about paying taxes to Caesar.

But he, knowing their hypocrisy and having read their hearts, said to them, “Why tempt ye me? Bring me a penny, that I may see it.” They brought one. And he said to them, “Whose is this image and inscription?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Jesus then said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” And they marveled at him.

When archeologists discovered silver denary with the head of Tiberius Caesar engraved in it, it was found out that the coin was in circulation about 15 A.D. This is consistent with Tiberius rule as emperor, which began in 14 A.D., which brings added support to the record stating that John the Baptist’s ministry commenced in the 15th year of Tiberius or (29 A.D.) It reads in the book of Luke 3:1-2:

“Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abilene, Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.”

This denarius featuring Tiberius on the obverse and his mother Livia on the reverse, would have been the coin Jesus held up in His speech. It was the only type of denarius in circulation throughout Jesus’ adult life.

Other scientific experiments attested to this discovery. In the late 80’s, two internationally respected Italian scholars from the University of Turin, Professor Luigi Baima Bollone, a medical examiner, and Professor Nello Balossino, an expert in computer-enhanced technology, were able to establish that the coin was minted in the reign of Emperor Tiberius corresponding to 29 A.D. in our system of dating.

The coin, which is referred to as “Tribute Penny” by collectors today, was also mentioned in the book of Matthew 22:17-22:

“Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They said unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s. When they had heard these words, they marveled, and left him, and went their way.”

This archeological finding clearly shows the reliability of what is written in the Bible… a discovery that proves how authentic the Bible is. (From: How Authentic the Bible Is? |

  10. Hezekiah”s Tunnel

The most magnificent waterworks of ancient Jerusalem is Hezekiah’s tunnel. Hezekiah was the king of Judah from about 726-697 B.C. When Sennacherib succeeded his father Sargon as the king of Assyria, Hezekiah refused to continue paying tribute. He rebelled against Assyrians and allied Judah with Egypt mentioned in Isaiah 36:4-7:

“And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest? I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me? Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him. But if thou say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?” (KJV)

This resulted in an invasion of Judah by Sennacherib recorded in 2 Kings 18:13-16

“Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fenced cities of Judah, and took them. And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold. And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of the LORD, and in the treasures of the king’s house. At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of the LORD, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria. And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rabsaris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great host against Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.”

While in 2 Chronicles 32:2-4, it can be read thus,

“And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem, he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they did help him. So there was gathered much people together, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?”

    This occurred about 701 B.C.

King Hezekiah needed a reliable water supply for Jerusalem, but at the same time he wanted to prevent the Assyrian forces from using the Gihon Spring, which was located outside the city. The Bible records Hezekiah’s solution in 2 Chronicles 32:30:

“This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David.”

The water from the Gihon was diverted into the Gai wadi by means of a tunnel 1,740 feet or 530 meters long. The tunnel was done simultaneously from both ends until they met somewhere near the middle. It was a rather amazing feat of engineering for the time.

In 1880, an inscription was discovered by a boy who was bathing in the Gihon spring. Carved in the rock at the end of the tunnel, it described the meeting of two groups of workers who had started from opposite ends of the tunnel. Translated, it read “The tunneling was completed… While the hewers wielded the axe, each man toward his fellow… there was heard a man’s voice calling to his fellow… the hewers hacked each toward the other, axe against axe, and the water flowed from the spring to the pool, a distance of 1,200 cubits…” The inscription is now in the Istanbul Museum.

As for the other events of Hezekiah’s reign, all his achievements and how he made the pool and the tunnel by which he brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah? (2 Kings 20:20)

Since King Hezekiah reigned between 727 B.C. and 698 B.C., the tunnel should have been built about that time. However, skeptics have long said that the tunnel was built much later, claiming that an inscription at the end of the tunnel dated it to second century B.C.

However, science has come to the rescue with a definitive date. Geologist Amos Frumkin and colleagues collected plants preserved in the waterproof layers of plaster lining the tunnel and determined the carbon-14 date. In addition, stalactites were collected and their ages determined through uranium-thorium dating. The plant was dated at 700-800 B.C., whereas a stalactite was dated to 400 B.C. (It would have been expected to have formed after the tunnel was built.)

The dating of the Siloam Tunnel is a remarkable testimony of the accuracy of the biblical texts and positively refutes the skepticism of archeologists who are constantly challenging biblical narratives. How many other times will they be proved wrong?

The Hezekiah’s tunnel is a constant reminder that proves how authentic the Bible is… (From: How Authentic the Bible Is?

  11. ITS very easy to see God is not in control of everything, sure he directs and tries to mold people in Love because he is Love. God is Love reading what love is , from the Bible 1 cor 13 . Therefore one can logically conclude Man Has free will and So do Angels and thats why the world is messed Up. Gods Sovereignty does not go beyond this, God Gave this World to Adam and Adam thru sin Gave his Authority over this world To Satan. 2nd Cor 4:4 says Satan is the God of this world 1st John 5:19 says the whole world is under the sway of the wicked one.

You must Balance Scripture with Scripture or u are not painting a proper picture of God and Causing People to Blame God for all the Bad things that Happen , when it is Satan who Kills, Steals, And Destroys. There is a war going on that Most no nothing about.
