As the bookkeeper for Truth in Love Ministry, I have to reconcile my accounts with the bank accounts to make sure everything matches up. The last couple months, when I have done this, it has made me think more about reconciliation and what it all means – especially as it pertains to our relationship with God.
I’ve looked up the word in the dictionary, and it gives these definitions:
Romans 5:9-10 says, “Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him! For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!”
When reconciling accounts, even one mismatch makes things unreconciled – every entry must match – nothing left out and nothing added – and the bottom line must match exactly. On our own, we can – in no way – be reconciled to God. We don’t even come close because we must be perfect as He is perfect. But because of Jesus’ death, we are now reconciled with God – He made everything match up – He made us perfect like God! And God did this while we were still His enemies – lost and totally unworthy. Without being reconciled, we could not have a right relationship with God, but because of Jesus, we now can have that close relationship! WOW! What an amazing God! And what a great message we get to share with others! We’ve already been reconciled – we don’t have to wait until the end of our life to see if our life account matches up (like I wait until the end of the month to reconcile our accounts) – through Jesus, we are ALREADY reconciled, ALREADY perfect, ALREADY in a right relationship with God!! How cool is that knowledge!! What peace! What thanksgiving!
Dear Jesus, Thank you for making me right with You – right with God. Thank you for reconciling me to You – despite all my sins, great and small – for making me perfect to have a close relationship with You. You are most awesome and wonderful and beyond my understanding! LORD, give me Your courage and peace to share this great reality with those You have placed in my life. And open my eyes to the new opportunities You will surely provide. Fill me with Your Spirit. Thank you. Thank you so very much! In my Reconciler’s Name I pray – AMEN.
